We are incredibly excited and proud to have the Dries Van Noten x Len Lye collections at ZAMBESIstore.
“Len Lye is so fascinating because when you see the films you think about the 1960s and its psychedelic era. Yet you discover that, in fact, this work was done in the late 1920s/early-30s by a guy in New Zealand who took a strip of celluloid and started to paint directly on it. He painted it black and scraped motifs out of it.” - Dries Van Noten
The discovery of our beloved New Zealand artist by Van Noten led to the collaboration between himself and the Len Lye Foundation in New Plymouth, resulting in an incredible collection of pieces for men and women.
The Menswear will be housed in our Zambesi Britomart store, and the Womenswear in our Zambesi Wellington store.
Both collections are also available online.
Check out our friend Dan Ahwa talking to the Belgian designer about the inspiration he found in the New Zealand artist here, in Viva.
“There is one dress that features a manifesto from Len about movement entitled ‘art that moves’, which was completely handwritten on the dress.” - Dries Van Noten talking to Dan Ahwa
